VIDEO: Powerful highs across NZ & Australia – but flooding risks too

> From the WeatherWatch archives

We have some big high pressure zones – but flood potential in NZ not only today (Tuesday Aug 9) but also next week in the NZ area as a sub-tropical flow comes down.

Currently high pressure from Australia is moving into the lower South Island … major frosts tonight with -7 to -10C through the Southern Alps and down to Northern Southland.

Next week that big high will lie east of NZ and looks likely to encourage rain and mild Fiji air down over both main islands.
