VIDEO: NZ: Antarctic blast arrives Wed & Thu – We track in detail

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Temperatures are about to plummet nationwide with snow flurries in both islands. While accumulation may not be great for many populated places the chance for snow is there in places like Dunedin and Christchurch, and possible the hilltop suburbs of Wellington.

Cold air may be the main problem with this event though – both for newborn livestock and for those with Kiwifruit orchards and vines. High pressure rolls in by Friday bringing a great weekend of settled weather.

Australia – We have a special video update for Australia out today, due to a big rain event there.

Lovely set-up and forecasted well in advance. Forecasting is so far ahead of where it was even 20 years ago.
A few October records may be broken but mostly because it’s right at the beginning of the month. Timing is everything.

Hi Janet, the global standard for snow is always in centimeters sorry (or inches in USA only). We’re hoping to bring some new snow products to WeatherWatch next year which we hope will break down snowfall totals for you in clearer detail.
Cheers
