Weak low pressure this weekend brings some rain and showers but big cold fronts on Monday and Tuesday will usher in a significant southerly change bringing winter weather conditions across both main islands for a day or two (maybe longer in the very south).
Wind chill may be brutal for newborn livestock at times in exposed places – we have hourly windchill forecasts for all NZ locations under “Trends” in the free WeatherWatch APP or at RuralWeather.co.nz
While snow is likely around the South Island on Friday, with some heavy falls today (and some more snow at times this weekend), the main wintry blast for NZ will be on Monday and Tuesday and this forecast may still change a little this weekend as we continue to fine tune specific airflows (the precise airflow makes all the difference between snow and rain, or dry and sunny – due to NZ’s large mountains and ranges in every one of our regions).
Finally, the 7 day rainfall map at the end of our video makes sense of all the rain, snow and showers coming in.
