VIDEO: High pressure for the South Island, showers and easterlies for the North Island

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The next several days ahead have a similar theme to them with cooler weather in eastern areas and warmer, drier, weather in the west.

A cold front on Thursday and Friday will head north bringing another surge of showers and cooler air to southern and eastern areas.

By the weekend a sub-tropical low nearby will be interacting with high pressure over the South Island – this creates an area of east to south east winds blowing over the North Island, perhaps strengthening further on Sunday.
