One big high pressure zone in the Tasman Sea will create windy weather for the North Island and the south eastern corner of Australia this week.
The strong high – which will cross the South Island late week bringing mostly settled weather – will have a “squash zone” of windy weather around it, bringing in gale force easterlies to the upper North Island by Friday and windy to gale force northerlies at times for the south eastern corner of Australia.
Northern NZ may also have some heavy rain late week – but as we explain in the video, there is a little uncertainty about just how much, but possibly close to 100mm in some places with gusts over 100km/h too.
