A very large and complex low pressure system will develop over the Tasman Sea and New Zealand area this Friday and Weekend and may generate heavy eastern rain in the South Island, snow down to low levels, single digit highs and more windy weather.
The colder, windy, south to south east flow will also impact eastern Australia, such as Sydney and Brisbane.
We have extra details in today’s video as we track this large weekend system.

Sunday looks fabulous for a book in front of the fire.
Rare to get such a widespread rainmaker from southern origins. I don’t see too much severe weather apart from in coastal Otago and the usual alpine road closures.

Hi Andrew, yes certainly a decent set up… Sunday at your place sounds great! 🙂 Yes sometimes these very large systems stretch the energy out over a greater distance and this then reduces the severe weather chances – so you may well be right (although heavy rain in Canterbury and gales may be an issue, as might wind chill for some animals). We’ll have more details over the coming days. Enjoy that book!
