A southerly is moving into south eastern Australia but at the same time a sub-tropical northerly moves into NZ. For NZ it means some southern areas will be +10C warmer than they were on Friday.
High pressure near northern NZ keeps conditions mild. Rain on the West Coast with nationwide wet weather from the west on Friday.

Hawkes Bay is still extreme dry, locals are saying the driest for 70 years. I see Argentina is also in drought so it’s not just us.

Hi Andrew, thank you very much for the local update – it’s much appreciated. You’re going to see more focus from WeatherWatch on this over the coming weeks. Hopefully some wet weather in the next 10 days but it won’t be enough to have a significant impact at this stage on the overall drought. Our next ClimateWatch Monthly Outlook will be out next week and we’ll likely have an extra focus on Hawke’s Bay in it.
Cheers

Hi Phil, I just talked to a friend in Santiago, Chile. They are experiencing extreme dry too, the city water supply is only %20 of normal for this time of year, they are worried and rationing in the future. Southern Brazil has a one in a hundred year drought along with Argentina, those blocking highs didn’t just affect us.
regards Andrew
