A run of large weather systems will significantly dominate our weather pattern over the next few days with strong winds then calm, wet and then sunny.
A big storm in the Southern Ocean today is dominating our weather with windy westerlies over the South Island. But at the same time a big high is moving into northern NZ and will cover most of the country on Wednesday.
By the weekend NZ will be surrounded by an enormous belt of high pressure – yet amidst all that a very big low pressure system will fill the entire Tasman Sea area and then drift eastwards towards New Zealand.
