We have a mix of lows and highs, calm days and windy days this week. Generally speaking it kicks off warmer than average in NZ but the week ends windier and cooler.
In Australia Cyclone Seroja will fall apart over southern Western Australia today then will drop into the Southern Ocean and merge with another low creating a new storm.
This will brush Tasmania and the West Coast of NZ’s South Island later this week with a burst of wind and rain.

Hi Graham, thanks SO much for the amazing support. We don’t know yet if there is a change coming this year. We certainly hear you (and feel you) for the 2 year scenario we find ourselves stuck in. Our hope is that a change will come this year but so far this is not locked in – we’re still seeing too much high air pressure. Sadly tax owned Niwa is more focused on competing against tax funded MetService and so far Niwa hasn’t commented on this set up — perhaps too focused on being big boys in the America’s Cup. As a Crown Research Institute they’ve lost their way that’s for sure. We hope the rain shows up for you soon – but for now high pressure is dominating more than it’s not. All the very best.
