This past summer has been a season of unrelenting episodes of heavy rainfall in the Midwest with a focus over the state of Iowa.
It seems like day after day, thunderstorm complexes containing heavy rain develop and rain out over Iowa and adjacent states.
Record flooding has occurred on the South Skunk River in both Ames and Colfax, Iowa. In Des Moines, the Walnut and Fourmile creeks have also risen to record levels.
Further storms are also expected for the remainder of the weekend and some towns in Iowa are now being asked to conserve water after pipes had been broken in the last 48 hours due to localised storms.
