Today is quite unsettled thanks to two fronts marching northwards, an occluded front for the North Island meanwhile a cold front lies over the South Island.
There may be an isolated heavy fall for western parts of the North Island today with the occluded front, perhaps even some thunder, but it’s the West Coast of the South Island that really gets thunderstorms with the cold front.
Rain streams eastwards as the cold front pushes northwards over the South Island then during the course of this afternoon and evening southwesterlies move in bringing showers in the south and east, a chance a few of these showers could be thundery also.
Tomorrow morning showers or areas of rain are mostly confined to the North Island but these clear in the afternoon with only a few stragglers remaining about the east coast till evening. The South Island has a few early morning showers clearing Canterbury through to Nelson but not bad otherwise.

Sunday is settled for all thanks to high pressure. But do not fear vigorous front lovers, on Monday and Tuesday next week another front is on the way starting in the south then gradually moving northwards.
