Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
UNSETTLED IN THE NORTH, SETTLED IN THE SOUTH
Plenty of wet weather for the North Island today, thunderstorms possible too. All thanks to a low pressure system
A southerly quarter airflow for the lower North Island strengthens up the western and eastern sides this afternoon with coastal gales possible.
The South Island is dry apart from the northeastern corner, showers reach down to Banks Peninsula this evening. Rain for the Kaikoura area and the Marlborough Sounds may become heavy this evening for a time.
FROSTS LOWER SOUTH ISLAND
Clear skies and light winds means a risk of frosts this morning for the lower South Island especially inland.
SNOW NEXT THREE DAYS
The Kaikoura ranges has a snow risk from this afternoon and the Central Plateau overnight.
Snow may reach to 800m overnight about the Central Plateau, 700 or perhaps even 600m for the ranges of Kaikoura.
Conditions ease for both areas tomorrow morning with the snow level lifting.
