Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
HIGH MOVES IN, WINDS EASE
High pressure moves in from the Tasman Sea today. Strong southwesterlies Banks Peninsula northwards in the east along the coast are strong but they will gradually back away, dying out this evening.
Morning showers clear coastal Canterbury, showers clear the eastern North Island this evening.
Mainly sunny elsewhere around New Zealand today.
RAIN OUTLOOK
Conditions on Wed, Thu and Friday are mainly settled thanks to high pressure. Western regions look to have an average amount of rainfall over the next seven day period meanwhile conditions are a drier in the east and for the upper North Island.
The precipitation percentage of normal map below runs through to Tuesday 10th October. Blue coloring means that part of the country is likely to see more rainfall than would normally be expected at this time of year, red means less rainfall is expected and white is an average amount of rainfall. The more intense either red or blue then either scenario is more true.
UNSETTLED THIS WEEKEND
A cold front brings in southwesterlies over the country on Saturday. Thunderstorms for the West Coast on Saturday then the upper North Island on Sunday.
Snow in the ranges also (mainly for the South Island) but nothing to much to worry about at this stage.
