A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, moving around a high in the Tasman Sea. This flow will start to ease especially later as this high moves in.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, north of about Auckland there is cloud, a few showers for western Northland drifting in from the Tasman. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, south to southeasterly winds freshen around midday.
Highs: 10-15

Eastern North Island

Partly cloudy, a few showers. Wairarapa may be dry to start with sun then a few showers develop late morning. Southwesterlies.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington

Southerlies freshen late morning bringing cloud and a shower or two, clearing late afternoon.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny, light winds tend northerly in the afternoon for Nelson. Cloud overnight for Nelson with drizzle possible.
Highs: 14

Canterbury

Partly cloudy, cloud clearing in the evening as southwesterlies die out. A few morning showers on Banks Peninsula clear.
Highs: 6-13

West Coast
Mainly sunny weather after any morning cloud clears, some cloud for Buller later on. Light winds.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud with light winds. Southwesterlies for coastal Otago gradually ease.
Highs: 8-12
