A southerly airflow lies over New Zealand today especially the North Island, a ridge of high pressure starts to nudge in from the Tasman Sea for the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Occasional showers, sunny spells too. Showers clear away in the evening as southwesterlies tend southeast.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain or showers, clearing in the evening. Southeasterly winds, fresh about the coast, easing at night.
Highs: 12-18

Eastern North Island

Rain, easing to showers in the afternoon. Fresh south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington

Showers, easing from afternoon becoming few and far between. Fresh southerlies, strong through Cook Strait.
Highs: 14-15

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain eases to showers by midday, clearing late afternoon or evening. Southerlies, breezy about Marlborough.
Highs: 16-17

Canterbury

Early rain eases to showers, clearing late afternoon or evening. Southwesterlies die out at night.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast

Sunny with southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Southland & Otago
Morning showers clear then sunny spells increase from afternoon, southwesterlies die away later in the day.
Highs: 12-13
