A westerly quarter airflow lies over the country today, expect showers in the west with thunderstorms and hail possible. Eastern regions have a mainly dry day.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, the odd shower in the west spreading elsewhere in the afternoon. There may be some rain in the far north during the evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 15
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Occasional showers, especially from afternoon. Showers may be heavy at times with hail from afternoon, a higher chance overnight near the coast. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 9 – 14
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, morning showers north of Mahia Peninsula clear. Winds from the northwest. Winds may tend northeast for coastal parts of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne for a time in the afternoon.
Highs: 14 – 17
Wellington
Partly cloudy, a few spits or showers, more so in the north. Overnight heavy showers possible with a chance of hail, mainly in the north once again. Northwesterly winds, blustery through Cook Strait.

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, late afternoon or evening a few spits or showers possible for Nelson, overnight for Marlborough. Overnight may see heavy showers with hail apart from eastern Marlborough. North to northwesterly winds.

Canterbury
A sunny morning then cloud increases from midday, a few isolated showers possible late afternoon and into the evening. Northerlies mostly but winds may tend onshore in the afternoon near the coast.
Highs: 10 – 14
West Coast
Heavy rain or showers, a chance of isolated thunder and hail. Conditions clearing up for Fiordland in the evening, easing elsewhere overnight. Northerlies.
Highs: 8 – 11
Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud, a few spits or showers possible late afternoon / evening. There may even be an isolated heavy shower with small hail. Light winds.
Highs: 9 – 11
