Tuesday’s national forecast – SE airflow continues

A southeasterly airflow continues today with rain or showers for much of the North Island, heaviest in the east. Showers for the eastern South Island but dry about the far south and for the West Coast.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain or showers, rain about Coromandel and Great Barrier Island is heavy, rain may become heavy about Bay Of Plenty during the morning. Rain easing in the evening as southeasterlies tend more south to southwest.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain, more persistent south of Palmerston North. North Taranaki may stay dry. Gusty southeasterlies, gales about the coast.
Highs: 8-14

Eastern North Island

Rain, heavy falls possible about Wairarapa and Gisborne, Gisborne gets the heaviest falls. Southeasterlies strengthen.
Highs: 10-14

Wellington

Showers, rain for a time in the afternoon then easing back to showers in the evening. Strong southeasterlies, gales through Cook Strait.
High: 10-11

Marlborough & Nelson

Showers for Marlborough, turning to rain late afternoon or evening. Gusty cold southerlies, gales about the Sounds. Snow to 500m lifting to 700m by evening. Snow may lower again a little overnight. Nelson has morning showers clear, a few move back into northwest Nelson / Tasman late afternoon.
Highs: 7-13

West Coast

Mostly sunny, there may be some high cloud. There could also be a few spots of rain in the morning Greymouth northwards but these will clear. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-14

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny for Southland, partly cloudy skies for Otago. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 5-8
