Tuesday’s national forecast – SE airflow

A south to southeasterly airflow flows between a low to the north and a high to the south, winds are strongest over the North Island.

North Island

Cloudy in the east with showers, rain at times for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Drier out west although southern Taranaki may catch a shower. Northern Taranaki through to southern Waikato should see some sun. Bay Of Plenty may have rain this morning especially about the coast then drying up with sun this afternoon. Expect heavy rain for Coromandel for much of today, rain or showers further north especially in the east. Winds from the southeast, strong to gale for some coastal parts, especially East Cape through to eastern Northland from late afternoon / evening.

South Island

Sunny for Nelson, along the West Coast and about the far south, Fiordland may have cloud at times. Coastal Otago has some cloud also, mainly this morning then again evening. Canterbury has some cloud especially north of about Rakaia, the odd shower too but these will start to fizzle out this afternoon although the odd one remains about the outer Peninsula and Kaikoura coast. Marlborough has cloud about the coast and Sounds, a few showers moving through with breezy southeasterlies.
