An occluded front pushes into the eastern South Island today, more into the second half of the day, this brings rain and it could be heavy. Perhaps unstable for Auckland and Northland this afternoon thanks to cold upper air.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, showers for Auckland and Northland with the chance of an isolated heavy fall, risk of thunder in the afternoon (more in the west), easing evening. Waikato and Bay Of Plenty stay dry. Southwesterlies.
Highs: 13 – 16
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy, the odd shower, showers a little more widespread from afternoon as southerlies freshen up a little.
Highs: 10 – 15
Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy, early showers clear then a few showers develop again in the afternoon. Light southwesterlies.
Highs: 14 – 16
Wellington
Thickening cloud, the odd shower, showers more frequent late afternoon / evening. Southerly winds develop around midday.
High: 13
Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy with showers from late afternoon. Southerly quarter winds.
Highs: 14 – 15
Canterbury
Cloudy with showers for South and parts of Mid Canterbury, a few showers spread northwards to inland North Canterbury. Widespread rain sets in late afternoon or evening, heavy falls possible for Mid / South Canterbury late evening / overnight. Southwesterlies freshen from afternoon.

West Coast
A mix of sun and cloud, there may be an early clearing shower. High cloud increases from afternoon spreading from the east. Southerly winds.
Highs: 13 – 14
Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with any morning fog clearing, cloud starts to thicken from afternoon spreading in from the east as light winds tend southeast. Rain later in the evening or overnight spreading in from the east, coastal Otago may see heavy rain overnight.
