Tuesday’s national forecast – Low to the north

High pressure covers most of New Zealand today bringing settled weather, a low to the north pushes in easterlies to the upper North Island bringing in cloud and showers north of Auckland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Waikato and Bay Of Plenty have some morning cloud then increasing sun. Further north expect cloudy periods with showers north of Auckland, some rain for Northland from afternoon especially in the east, possibly becoming heavy later. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud after any early mist or fog breaks, coastal areas will be sunnier with cloud breaking elsewhere at night. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-22

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, a few clouds about, especially about the ranges in the afternoon when there is the low risk of an isolated shower. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-22

Wellington

Mostly sunny, northerlies tend southerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-22

Marlborough & Nelson

Mainly sunny weather, low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / early evening inland about hills / ranges. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury

Any morning cloud clears then mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud inland about the ranges, low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon. Light winds then east to northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 17-22

West Coast

A few morning showers then sunny spells increase from afternoon, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-18

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud with the chance of a shower for Southland, a mix of sun and cloud otherwise. Low risk of an isolated shower for North Otago late afternoon. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-23
