A low moves away to the east of the North Island today, the sting in its tail is heavy rain north of Mahia Peninsula. The South Island is comparatively settled, a cold front moves onto the far south this evening.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Occasional showers with southwesterlies becoming gusty and strong from afternoon. South of about Auckland showers clear after midday with sunny spells breaking through.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny after any early cloud clears, southeasterlies die out in the afternoon. Taranaki has southwesterlies all day, gusty about the coast especially from afternoon, there could be a few morning showers in the south clear otherwise it’s mostly sunny.

Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with showers although parts of Wairarapa may be dry with sun. Expect rain north of Napier with heavy falls north of Mahia Peninsula, easing from the south at night. Southerlies, strong to gale for East Cape later in the day.

Wellington
Sunny, light southerlies tend to the north in the afternoon.

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny, light winds. Afternoon southwesterlies for Nelson.

Canterbury
Sunny with light winds.
Highs: 13-16
West Coast
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, showers for Fiordland with the odd one spreading northwards in the afternoon. Evening rain for Fiordland clears overnight. Southwesterlies.
Highs: 12-16
Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy for Southland with the odd spit or shower, Otago has sunnier and drier weather. Rain pushes northwards during the evening as northwesterlies change southwest. Rain clears overnight for Southland, early Wednesday morning for Otago.
