Tuesday’s national forecast – Fronts arrive in the south

A westerly quarter airflow lies over the country today with a few fronts in the far south then pushing northwards over the South Island this evening.

North Island

Some cloud in the west, perhaps a shower or two then starting to break away into the afternoon, winds from the southwest. Bay Of Plenty and the east coast is sunny after any early cloud clears, afternoon sea breezes for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

South Island

Sunny for Nelson and Marlborough, the West Coast has some cloud and a few showers, rain for Fiordland. Rain moves into Southland this morning, easing and pushing into Otago this afternoon with southwesterlies. Canterbury has sun and warm temperatures, southerlies this evening brings cloud and a few showers starting in the south then spreading northwards. Parts of North Canterbury especially inland may remain dry.
