Tuesday’s national forecast – Front moves into western regions

A front pushes into western regions today flinging out from a low in the Tasman Sea, northerly quarter winds over New Zealand. Rain for the West Coast then rain for the western North Island later this evening or overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells and increasing cloud, showers then rain develops in the evening spreading in from the northwest. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with a few showers about Taranaki, rain spreads to all areas overnight. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-21

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, northerly winds, afternoon easterlies for coastal Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 21-24

Wellington

Cloudy areas, spits of rain possible in the north, rain overnight. Strong north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough & Nelson

High cloud and some sun, spits of rain develop about Nelson and the Sounds in the evening. Widespread rain overnight, north to northwesterly winds becoming gusty from afternoon.
Highs: 20-23

Canterbury

Sunny areas and some high cloud, a few spots of rain overnight. Winds tend to the north, perhaps northeast along the coast in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-23

West Coast

Cloudy with rain south of Greymouth, spreading northwards during the afternoon. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, the odd spit or shower. Coastal Otago becomes mainly dry from afternoon. Light winds, tending northerly inland, southwesterlies overnight.
Highs: 18-22
