Tuesday’s national forecast – Front moves in

A front pushes over New Zealand today moving in from the west, northerly winds ahead of the front may be gusty. The South Island sees the front this morning and afternoon, the North Island this evening.

North Island

Showers for Bay Of Plenty, spreading elsewhere about the upper North Island this afternoon, there may be some sun this morning if it’s dry. In the west expect a few showers for New Plymouth and moving into Wellington / Kapiti, showers then rain spreads in this evening, possibly heavy for Taranaki. Sun / increasing high cloud in the east, late evening or overnight scattered rain spreads from the west. Northerly winds, becoming gusty in the west from late afternoon.

South Island

Showers for the West Coast, Nelson and spits getting into Marlborough. Rain with heavy falls and possible thunder moves into South Westland this morning, North Westland this afternoon and Nelson / Marlborough this evening. The east coast stays dry with high cloud, some sun for Southland and Otago. Northerlies, gusty for the West Coast this morning then easing once front has moved through this afternoon, northerlies gusty for Nelson and Marlborough late afternoon / evening.
