A front pushes northwards over the South Island today bringing heavy rain in the west, warm weather in the east but eventually rain or showers push northwards with a southwest change. The North Island has a northwesterly airflow, just a shower or two in the west, warm and sunny in the east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-19
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, some lower level cloud about Kapiti and Taranaki brings a shower or two. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-17
Eastern North Island
Sunny, some high cloud later in the day. North to northwesterly winds, winds tend northeast in the afternoon for coastal Hawkes Bay.
Highs: 17-22
Wellington
Becoming mostly cloudy in the morning, a few showers in the north, becoming more widespread overnight. Northwesterlies strengthen rising to gale from afternoon through Cook Strait.
Highs: 15-16
Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with increasing high cloud, north to northwesterly winds becoming breezy in the afternoon. Rain spreads in from the west overnight.
Highs: 17-19
Canterbury
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, rain developing about the high country from late morning spreading from the west. Late afternoon a southwest change spreads into South Canterbury bringing showers then moving further north in the evening.
Highs: 14-20
West Coast
Heavy rain with breezy northerlies, rain eases in the south from afternoon as northerlies change westerly, easing further north at night.
Highs: 12-15
Southland & Otago
Rain eases to showers around midday with northerlies changing westerly, conditions are dry first thing for Otago with high cloud before rain moves in. Showers clear later in the evening.
Highs: 13-16
