Tuesday’s national forecast – Easterly winds build

A large high continues to sit out to the east of New Zealand directing in an east to northeasterly airflow over the country.

North Island

Cloudy areas for the upper North Island with the odd shower pushing in at times, winds breezy from the east or northeast. Cloudy areas along the east coast also, there may be a shower especially Napier northwards, winds from the northeast. Out west expect a mix of mid and high level cloud, sunny spells too, light winds tend onshore after midday.

South Island

Morning cloud in the east breaks to sun and some high cloud, northeasterly winds. Sun and some high cloud elsewhere with northerly quarter winds. Isolated showers possible about inland hills and ranges late afternoon / evening of the lower South Island then clearing at night.
