Tuesday’s national forecast – Cool day eastern South Island

A weak cold front moves northwards for the South Island today bringing cloud and a few showers for the eastern South Island, the North Island is mainly settled apart from some cloud in the east.

North Island

Mostly sunny, a few afternoon clouds for Auckland and Northland may bring an isolated shower or two. The east coast has some morning cloud then sunny spells, cloud thickens again later in the day, Mahia Peninsula northwards may have a shower and these showers pick up later today. Light winds and afternoon sea breezes for the upper North Island, the east coast and in the west through to Taranaki has south to southeasterly winds.

South Island

A mainly sunny day for the West Coast, cloudier in the east with a few showers, mainly about Canterbury and perhaps into the Kaikoura area. Southland and Otago sees cloud break to some sun this afternoon, cloud may start to break about Canterbury this evening. Nelson and Marlborough has some sun, cloud thickens later for Marlborough. Buller and Tasman sees isolated showers develop this afternoon, one or two may become heavy with a risk of thunder then clearing tonight. Light winds in the west, south to southeasterly winds in the east.
