Tuesday’s national forecast – Cold front South Island

A cold front moves northwards over the South Island today bringing showers to most regions, a southerly change moves northwards in the east. A southwest airflow for the North Island with showers in the northeast mostly clearing this morning then a few moving in out west later this afternoon or evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud and a few showers then breaking to sunny spells, rain for East Cape clears away this afternoon. Mostly sunny for Bay Of Plenty from afternoon and dry. Late afternoon or evening a few showers move in from the west for western areas. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy skies, a shower or two, more so in the afternoon. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-17

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, there may be a touch of high cloud. Rain for Gisborne eases and clears this afternoon. Late afternoon or evening there is the chance of a spit or shower. Light winds.
Highs: 18-20

Wellington

Mostly sunny, northwesterly winds change southeast at night bringing a few showers.
Highs: 16-17

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, an isolated shower or two may move into Marlborough late afternoon or evening. West to southwesterly winds for Nelson, Marlborough has westerly quarter winds then changing to the south in the evening.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

A dry morning, some sun then southerlies develop in the afternoon bringing showers, one or two may be heavy with some thunder and hail then clearing at night.
Highs: 14-18

West Coast

Rain in the morning for Fiordland then easing. Elsewhere expect showers, thinning out in the evening but one or two remain. Southwest winds.
Highs: 12-15

Southland & Otago
Showers, clearing away to coastal Southland in the evening as southwesterlies tend more to the west. Sunny spells start breaking through from midday. Winds strong about the coast.
Highs: 11-15
