A cold front slowly pushes northwards over the South Island today meanwhile the North Island is mainly settled with a ridge of high pressure but there could be a few isolated showers about.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, a few light morning showers in the east then isolated showers in the afternoon for inland areas Northland through to inland Bay Of Plenty and Waikato. East to northeasterly winds but afternoon sea breezes develop in the west.
Highs: 25-27
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny although Taranaki may have a few morning showers then clearing to sunny spells. Northerlies tend northwest during the morning.
Highs: 22-25
Eastern North Island
Morning cloud then mostly sunny, northeasterly winds. Northwesterlies for Wairarapa. Overnight southwesterlies.
Highs: 25-26
Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud, north to northwesterly winds blustery at times. Winds change to the south overnight.
Highs: 21-23
Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny and warm with north to northwesterly winds, overnight winds change to the south.
Highs: 23-27
Canterbury
Sunny and warm, southerlies develop in the afternoon with cloud gradually increasing. Late evening or overnight showers.
Highs: 24-28
West Coast
Skies are mostly cloudy although about parts of North Westland and more likely Buller there will be some sun. A cold front pushes northwards during the day but it does weaken and slow down, heavy rain about Fiordland in the morning then some rain finally reaches North Westland later in the evening or overnight. Northerly winds.
Highs: 18-24
Southland & Otago
Rain develops first thing in the morning for Southland with a southwest change, clearing late afternoon or evening. Otago is dry with high cloud then rain moves in around midday, clearing at night.
Highs: 17-24
