A cold front pushes off the North Island this morning to the northeast, a cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand in its wake bringing showers to most regions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning rain eases to showers and sunny spells as northwesterlies change fresh southwest, becoming dry in the afternoon for Bay Of Plenty through to eastern Northland.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early rain eases to showers, sun breaks through at times. Snow flurries may reach higher parts of the Desert Road in the evening. Fresh westerly winds, strong about the coast.
Highs: 10-15

Eastern North Island

Morning scattered rain then sun breaks through, breezy westerlies. Showers pick up in the afternoon for Wairarapa as southwesterlies freshen.
Highs: 15-19

Wellington

Early rain eases to the odd shower, some sun may even break through. Showers then turning to rain mid to late afternoon. Fresh southwesterlies tend to the south in the afternoon.
Highs: 12-14

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning sunny spells, showers develop in the afternoon, possibly heavy with hail from late afternoon, showers clear overnight. Southwesterly winds, winds may tend easterly in the afternoon for Marlborough.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury

Heavy morning showers with a chance of hail then easing from afternoon, showers becoming restricted to the coast in the evening. Snow flurries to 700m. Gusty southwesterlies.
Highs: 11-13

West Coast

Showers, sun breaks through at times. Fiordland (more so near the coast) may be mainly dry with sunny spells. Buller especially inland may see heavy afternoon showers with a chance of thunder and hail. Showers clear overnight as southwesterlies change southerly.
Highs: 11-14

Southland & Otago
Showers, possibly heavy with small hail, easing up for a time in the afternoon, some sun may even break through. Snow flurries to 500m. Cold southwesterly winds, gales possible for coastal Otago.
Highs: 9-11
