A south to southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, showers easing and clearing about most South Island areas although inland Canterbury through to inland Marlborough may see isolated showers hang around till later in the evening. Most North Island regions see a shower or two today, some heavy with thunderstorms in the northeast once again.

Auckland & Northland
The odd shower, especially late morning and early afternoon. Sunny spells
at times. Southwesterly winds. Showers may hang about eastern Northland longer
into the afternoon then clearing evening.
High: 23

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of
Plenty

Sunny spells with the odd shower, showers become a bit heavier with
possible thunderstorms afternoon and evening about northern / eastern parts of
the Central North Island, eastern Waikato and Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 22-24

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud clears with sunny spells increasing, light winds. Afternoon
easterly breezes develop with building clouds, isolated showers develop mid
afternoon about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne (especially about the ranges), showers
may be heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later in the evening
Highs: 23-25

Western North Island

Westerly breezes with the odd shower, clearing around midday and sunny
spells developing. Winds tend a little more southwest about northern
Taranaki.
Highs: 21-22

Wellington

Winds change southerly in the morning bringing cloudy periods and the
chance of a shower, mainly dry in the afternoon with some cloud although
southerlies will be brisk. Southerlies ease later in the evening.
High: 19

Nelson

Sunny with light southwesterlies in the morning then afternoon northerlies.
Some evening cloud with the chance of a shower, especially inland.
High: 22

Marlborough

Southwesterly breezes with sunny spells, areas of cloud build in the
afternoon as winds tend easterly. Late afternoon isolated showers look possible
mainly inland, clearing before midnight.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury

Showers ease clearing early afternoon near the coast, sunny spells then
develop with southerly breezes easing and tending northeast in the evening. A
few isolated showers may hang about inland areas (i.e. the foothills) during the
afternoon then clearing at night.
Highs: 16-17

West Coast

Early showers clear for most then expect sunny spells and a few clouds with
southwesterly breezes. Some cloud thickens about South Westland in the evening
and drizzle is possible there overnight.
Highs: 18-19

Coastal Otago

Early showers clear then expect sunny spells with southwesterly breezes.
Southwesterlies die out late afternoon and winds then tend northeast.
Highs: 14-15

Central Otago

A few early showers clear then cloud clears to a mostly sunny afternoon
with southwesterly breezes dying out. High cloud thickens from evening and the
odd spot of rain develops overnight as winds tend northwest.
Highs: 18-21

Southland

Sunny spells and some cloud with westerly breezes, high cloud thickens in
the evening then overnight the odd shower develops with northwesterlies.
High: 16
