A break in the weather today as the Tasman Sea anticyclone spreads a ridge over New Zealand, still a few showers may sneak through about Coromandel, eastern Northland and perhaps even Auckland for a time. The odd shower is likely to affect the eastern North Island too clearing in the afternoon.

Upper North Island
A mix of sunny areas and some cloud with southeasterly winds developing in the morning, a few showers move through Coromandel around midday then onto eastern Northland later in the afternoon. A chance of a shower around midday for Auckland too but mainly to the north of the city. Cloudy in Gisborne with cool southerlies, showers ease mostly clearing during the afternoon although the odd brief spit may remain till night time.

Lower North Island

South to southeast breezes with sunny breaks increasing for most from morning, southerlies die out in Wellington early afternoon. Sunny breaks develop about midday for Wairarapa, showers clear in the Hawkes Bay early afternoon with southerlies easing at night.
HIGHS: 19-23

Upper South Island

Morning cloud clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon on the east coast, southerlies tend northeast after midday. Sunny in Nelson with light winds and afternoon sea breezes. Mostly sunny on the West Coast, light northerlies after midday brings in a few clouds.
HIGHS: 19-22

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny with areas of cloud, westerly breezes. In Southland a few mornings showers clear then expect high cloud, west to northwest winds increasing from evening and becoming strong at night.
HIGHS: 18-22

Warmest – Northland

Windiest – Southland coast

Sunniest
– Nelson

Wettest – Hawkes Bay and Gisborne ranges. Coromandel could take the reins here if showers push in enough from the east.
