A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today with a series of fronts moving north, conditions are wetter in the west or will become wet, drier in the east. Rain in the south from late afternoon.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, showers move into Waikato late afternoon then further north late evening or overnight. Northwesterlies change westerly overnight.
Highs: 20 – 22
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers turn to rain in the morning (heavy for Taranaki), clearing away late afternoon. Strong northerlies change west to northwest around midday.
Highs: 16 – 20
Eastern North Island
Sun and developing high cloud, spits of rain spread into Wairarapa around midday then further north late afternoon or evening. Northwesterlies.
Highs: 19 – 25
Wellington
Spits turns to rain in the morning, clearing afternoon as strong to gale northerlies change northwest.
Highs: 17 – 18
Marlborough & Nelson
Rain, clearing in the afternoon with sun breaking through as strong northerlies change westerly.
Highs: 20 – 24
Canterbury
Early cloud clears then mostly sunny, winds from the northwest but tending southerly in the morning south of Banks Peninsula about the coast then easterly in the afternoon. Later in the evening or overnight southerlies freshen with cloud.
Highs: 22 – 24
West Coast
Morning heavy rain for Buller eases to showers then sun breaks through in the afternoon, further south showers ease with sunny spells developing. Fiordland sees a new round of heavy rain move in from late afternoon. Westerly winds.
Highs: 14 – 17
Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud for Southland, Otago is mostly sunny. From late afternoon for Southland into the evening for Otago rain moves through (possibly heavy) as gusty northwesterlies change westerly, rain eases overnight.
