A low in the Tasman Sea brings rain or showers to the North Island today, perhaps some unstable activity this afternoon in the far north. The South Island is mainly settled with high pressure.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Humid with patchy rain or drizzle, Northland may see a thunderstorm from afternoon with heavy falls, spreading to about Auckland at night. Breezy northeasterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy, a few showers or some patchy rain especially morning then easing off before moving back in again in the evening or at night. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-24
Eastern North Island
Cloudy areas, some sun may stick through at times. Risk of a shower or spit also. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 25-26
Wellington
Mostly cloudy, chance of a spit or two. Overnight some rain moves through for a time. Breezy northerlies.

Marlborough & Nelson
A mostly cloudy day, chance of a spit or shower (more so about Nelson and the Sounds) then overnight rain is a bit more likely and more widespread. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-26
Canterbury
A mix of sun and cloud, cloud may be thicker south of about Banks Peninsula. In the evening cloud may thicken further north. Light winds tend to the south by midday then easterly by evening. A hot afternoon for the Mackenzie Country with sunnier skies.

West Coast
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, showers or maybe even some rain pushes in from the north to reach about Greymouth during the afternoon. Light winds.
Highs: 21-23
Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud although some inland areas may have a mostly sunny day. Westerlies about Southland tend southwest in the afternoon. Light winds tend easterly in the afternoon for coastal Otago.
