A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island today reaching the lower North Island later this evening or around midnight. Warm northwesterlies then changing southwest.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, some cloud at times. There may be a few fog or mist patches morning and night about inland spots. Light winds tend west to southwest in the afternoon, afternoon northwesterlies for Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 19-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud with freshening west to northwesterly winds, late evening / overnight showers move in up to Palmerston North.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island

Mainly sunny, some high cloud, increasing from afternoon. Northwesterly winds change southerly about Wairarapa around midnight bringing a few showers.
Highs: 20-25

Wellington

Mostly cloudy, strong northwesterly winds start to ease from afternoon. A few late evening / overnight showers with a southerly change.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

High cloud with gusty northwesterlies. Cloud thickens and lowers in the evening, perhaps bringing a shower. Winds change southeast in the evening for Marlborough.
Highs: 19-24

Canterbury

High cloud, warm to start about North Canterbury. Cloud thickens during the morning as northwesterlies change southerly, winds tend to the east in the afternoon. Chance of a shower or drizzle patch as cooler southerlies move in. About the high country expect some rain or showers spreading from the west, clearing from the south afternoon onwards. Inland South Canterbury (Mackenzie Country) sees sun break through after rain clears and becoming quite pleasant.

West Coast

Rain, heavy falls possible, clearing in the morning about South Westland then sunny areas increase as a southwest change moves through. Rain clears during the evening further north.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
Morning rain clears then mostly sunny, some cloud may hang about coastal Southland. Fresh west to southwesterly winds (strong about the coast) ease in the evening.
Highs: 11-16
