A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, perhaps becoming a little unstable for the eastern North Island this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A period of showers, possibly heavy with thunder / hail then clearing early afternoon with sunny spells developing. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A few morning showers clear then sunny spells increase, about the Central North Island and Manawatu showers may persist through till evening. Southwesterlies.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island
The odd shower, some may become heavy in the afternoon then clearing in the evening. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington
A few morning showers then sunny areas increase from afternoon. Inland Wellington / towards Wairarapa may see an isolated shower late afternoon / evening then clearing at night. Southerlies tend northerly late afternoon.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
A mix of sun and cloud, risk of an isolated shower in the afternoon (mainly for Marlborough) otherwise mainly dry. Afternoon east to northeast breezes for Marlborough, Northerlies from midday for Nelson.
Highs: 16-17

Canterbury
Any morning cloud clears then mostly sunny, afternoon east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

West Coast
Some cloud, there may be a shower or two about North Westland otherwise mainly dry. Showers move into Fiordland in the evening then turning to rain overnight. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-18

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with developing high cloud, northwesterlies tend northerly in the evening. East to northeast breezes for coastal Otago.
Highs: 16-21
