The last week of October will still be windy in NZ, but nothing like last week – with November 1st kicking off with a giant high pressure zone right over the country finally bringing lighter winds nationwide and dry skies. For eastern parts of the North Island wanting rain this won’t help – but it will see winds ease and temperatures settle there, which may help.
Next week kicks off even milder across New Zealand with high pressure still in control and sliding out to east, with some places getting a subtropical or northerly wind kicking in.

We have a brief update on this storm and compare it to the power of the storm near NZ’s South Island last week.
