North Island

Mainly sunny weather, winds from the west or southwest breezy at times. The east coast has light winds then afternoon sea breezes. Northwesterlies brisk / strong about Wellington and through Cook Strait with a mix of sun and cloud.

South Island

Cloudy for the West Coast with showers, rain at times about Fiordland becoming heavy in the evening then gradually spreading northwards. Cloudy areas and the odd spit for Southland, rain later in the evening may be heavy for a time as a front pushes in.

Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson have a mainly sunny day. Afternoon northwesterlies for Canterbury will likely be gusty especially inland.
