A northwesterly airflow lies over the North Island today, and a series of fronts slowly moves in from the west. Meanwhile, cooler southerlies spread northwards over the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

For most regions some morning sun is possible, otherwise expect mostly cloudy weather. Showers move in during the afternoon with the chance of an isolated heavy fall. Northland is mostly sunny with cloud a little more frequent from afternoon; overnight showers there. West to northwesterly winds. 
Highs: 23-25
 
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with showers. Some may be heavy at times, mainly about Taranaki, easing in the evening as a cool south to southwest change moves through, then clearing overnight.
Highs: 19-22
 
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, with light winds in the morning then moderate northwesterly breezes in the afternoon. An evening southerly change about the Wairarapa, then pushing further north overnight with a few showers.
Highs: 24-26
 
Wellington
Cloudy with the odd shower. Some rain late afternoon as gusty northwesterly winds change southerly.
High: 20
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Thick high cloud with the odd spot of rain, more so about Nelson, with only a chance for Marlborough. North to northwesterly winds. Late afternoon or evening a southerly change may bring a shower or two.
Highs: 20-23
 
Canterbury
A cloudy day with drizzle patches, clearing overnight. Southerly winds.
High: 14
 
West Coast
Morning rain eases then clears away; afternoon sunny areas. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-17
 
Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas and a few showers about Southland, especially afternoon onwards. Breezy westerly winds. Otago sees early rain clear, then expect sunny areas with west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-14
