A north to northwesterly airflow increases over New Zealand today while a slim ridge of high pressure holds on to some of the upper North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with north to northwest winds, a few afternoon sunny areas possible for the Central North Island.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud, northwesterly winds brisk at times about southern Wairarapa.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington

Cloudy with brisk northwesterlies.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and some high cloud. North to northwesterly winds spring up around midday, becoming breezy in the afternoon about Marlborough.
Highs: 17-21

Canterbury

Plenty of high cloud with northerly quarter winds after any morning low cloud breaks away, a few spots of rain possible about South Cantebrury late afternoon.
High: 18

West Coast

Cloudy with rain about Fiordland, moving north during the day reaching North Westland late afternoon or evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Southland & Otago

Thick high cloud in the morning with a few spells of rain, sunny areas break through in the afternoon. Coastal Otago doesn’t see areas of rain till afternoon then clearing in the evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-17
