A brisk cold southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, cloudier in the east with a few showers, sunnier skies out west. A few isolated showers possible for the upper North Island this afternoon possibly heavy for some.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy areas, risk of a few showers in the morning then showers becoming heavy early afternoon with possible thunderstorms (thunderstorms mainly possible about Northland). Showers clear by evening and sunny areas break through. Southwesterly winds

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and some cloud about, southwesterlies tend more southerly in
the afternoon. Chance of a late afternoon / evening isolated shower especially
about the Bay Of Plenty possibly heavy.
Highs: 20-24

Western North Island

The odd shower, mostly clearing early afternoon. Cloudy areas remaining for
most. Breezy south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Eastern North Island

A few morning showers, remaining fairly cloudy with brisk southwesterlies.
Cloud breaking late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington

Morning showers clear, remaining fairly cloudy. Strong southerlies with a
risk of gales, especially in the morning.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny weather with breezy southerlies, winds tend northerly in the
afternoon about Nelson. Some early rain possible about Nelson then clearing, a
few late afternoon / evening isolated showers possible about inland Nelson
ranges.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower. Strong southwesterly winds near the
coast, wind only breezy to brisk inland.
High: 14

West Coast

Sunny or becoming sunny early on, southeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-21

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, many dry spells too. About inland areas
showers are less likely with drier weather more on the cards. Cold southwesterly
winds.
Highs: 12-13
