A front moves up the South Island today and onto the western side of the North Island this evening. Expect rain or showers with the front in the west of the country while out east the weather is mainly dry with high cloud.

Auckland & Northland
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud from morning, northerly winds. Rain moves in late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 16-17

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and some increasing high cloud, northerly winds. Late evening /
overnight rain.
High: 14

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, becoming mostly cloudy by late
afternoon. Light northerly winds. In the evening some rain moves in.
Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some increasing high cloud, high cloud thick by evening.
Light winds tend northwesterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 15-16

Taranaki

Cloudy with increasing northeasterly winds, areas of rain develop in the
afternoon. Winds tend northwest later in the evening.
High: 14

Western North Island

High cloud thickening from morning, odd shower afternoon / evening.
Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Wellington

Cloudy with the odd shower from mid to late morning. Strong northerly
winds.
High: 12

Nelson

Cloudy with areas of rain moving in early in the morning, rain may be heavy
for a time late afternoon / evening then easing and clearing around midnight.
Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough

Mostly cloudy, showers move through from midday then clear later in the
evening. Breezy to brisk northwesterly winds. Rain may be heavy for a time in
the evening about the Sounds before clearing later.

Canterbury

Morning high cloud, chance brief spot of rain. High cloud clearing away
during the afternoon. North to northwesterly breezes.
Highs: 14-15

West Coast

Early rain eases to showers, northerly winds.

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas with some high cloud, light winds.
High: 15

Central Otago

Sunny areas and high cloud, north to northwesterly winds. Brief rain at
times west of the Southern Lakes area, mainly dry further east.
Highs: 10-12

Southland

Sunny areas and some cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
High: 14
