A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today, showers conditions for the West Coast of the South Island and a few western parts of the North Island. Generally mild and sunny weather for eastern regions of both islands.

Auckland & Northland
Mainly sunny with areas of cloud, west to northwest winds. Low risk of a brief shower moving through in the afternoon.
Highs: 21-23

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny spells with west to northwest winds, a few showers may move through at times in the afternoon about the Waikato and Central North Island. Cloud
thickens later in the evening.
Highs: 17-21

Eastern North Island

Sunny with northwesterly winds, a few morning showers clearing about
Gisborne.
Highs: 22-23

Western North Island

Periods of cloud and occasional showers, breezy west to northwest
winds.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

Strong northerlies gusting to gale force at times then easing in the
afternoon. Mostly sunny conditions with cloud thickening later in the
evening.
High: 17

Nelson

Mostly sunny with breezy northwesterlies easing by midday, cloud thickens
overnight.
High: 18

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with gusty northwesterlies easing in the morning, still
blowing through at a moderate pace for the rest of the day.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with northwesterlies (gusty inland) easing away first thing in
the morning then light winds. High cloud thickens later in the evening.
Highs: 19-21

West Coast

Early rain eases to showers, northwesterly winds. Rain picking up again
overnight with heavy falls and thunderstorms possible.
High: 14

Coastal Otago

Mostly sunny with light winds, perhaps tending southerly in the evening for
a time.
High: 17

Central Otago

Sunny spells with west to northwest winds, the odd shower at times mainly
in the far west of the district (Southern Lakes area). Some rain in the far west
later in the day.
Highs: 13-14

Southland

Sunny spells with brisk west to northwest winds, the odd shower may pass
through at times otherwise mainly dry.
High: 14
