Here’s what is making the weather headlines this weekend….

UNSETTLED FOR THE RETURN TO WORK

A large broad low centred over the lower South Island pushes in unsettled weather to western regions today, heavy rain is possible and thunderstorms. The lower South Island has rain.

Canterbury northwards in the east is dry and warm however Marlborough and Wairarapa have rain from later this afternoon spreading from the west.

The below map on the right shows the accumulative rainfall from today through to midnight tomorrow (Wednesday 12th March). As you can see western regions have the heaviest rainfall.

A BIT WET ON WEDNESDAY, EASTERN NORTH ISLAND DRY

Our low weakens on Wednesday but we still have rain or showers for most regions, Fiordland is dry with sun and the eastern North Island is dry with sun also. Wairarapa does have rain in the morning but this clears then later in the day much of the eastern North Island may see a few spits of rain.

The upper North Island may see isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms from afternoon once again.

RAINFALL OUTLOOK HEALTHY

Most of New Zealand over the next seven days can expect an average amount of rainfall, north of Auckland and especially Northland may have more than elsewhere.
