Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
HEAVY RAIN BOP / GISBORNE
As a low moves away to the east of the North Island today one of it’s final acts is to bring some persistent if not heavy rain to coastal Bay Of Plenty this morning then by midday north of Mahia Peninsula in the east. Rain eases north of Mahia Peninsula overnight.
Rain watches from Metservice can be seen here.
COLD THIS MORNING, FRONT IN THE SOUTH
Most of the South Island will be cold to start this morning, perhaps not a frost but very close. Inland mountainous parts of the South Island will likely be around or below zero first thing this morning.
The South Island is mainly settled today for the majority but we do have cloud and a shower or two push northwards along the West Coast, a few spits or showers for Southland also.
This evening a cold front moves into the far south bringing rain although it’s not long lasting, it will start to clear overnight from the south. Tomorrow morning southerlies push through Canterbury with cloud and a few showers.
WARM IN THE EAST ON FRIDAY
Thursday is settled for most of New Zealand thanks to high pressure, nice for a change. But we can’t get too comfortable in this current pattern of endless systems moving through from the Tasman.
Northerlies strengthen over the South Island on Friday ahead of a front to the southwest. This northerly airflow means temperatures for the eastern South Island will likely jump into the late teens.
