Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

GREAT IN THE EAST

Thanks to a westerly quarter airflow over the country eastern regions will likely be in the mid to late teens this afternoon, enjoy!

COLD FRONT SLOW IN MOVING IN

A cold front due to head into the lower South Island is looking to be a little delayed, it’s not till Wednesday evening that rain moves into Southland then Otago.

Snow overnight Wednesday lowers to 300m for Southland then 400m for Otago early on Thursday morning, during Thursday snow flurries lower to 400m for Canterbury as a southerly change sweeps northwards.

RAIN OUTLOOK

The next seven days are looking quite dry around most of New Zealand compared to the statistical average. Just the far north and the West Coast south of Hokitika is looking to be average or wetter than average for this time of year.

The map below runs from today through to Tuesday 25th July. Blue coloring means that part of the country is likely to see more rainfall than would normally be expected at this time of year, red means less rainfall is expected and white is an average amount of rainfall. The more intense either red or blue then either scenario is more true.
