Tuesday’s clearing in the South

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The weak ridge that currently lies over the South Island will continue to influence our weather through the day – meaning a pretty mixed outlook depending on where you live.

The east coast should see any morning cloud break into sunny spells, with southerlies easing into the morning. Western parts are looking pretty similar, but with light winds persisting through most of the day.

Any early morning rain or showers should clear quickly for the Tasman, Nelson and Buller regions, leading into a typically pleasant spring day.

Further south, patchy rain looks like sticking around for Southland, with fresh westerlies dying off in the afternoon. South of the Otago peninsula is looking at cloudy spells and fresh southwesterlies – though these too will ease as the day progresses.
