A strong northwesterly airflow lies over most of the country tonight, meanwhile a low pressure system approaches the far north of the North Island from the Tasman Sea. The wettest place tonight will be the West Coast of the South Island.

Northland
Cloudy with north to northeasterly winds, rain develops towards dawn for the upper half of Northland.
Lows tonight: 9-11

Auckland
Skies becoming cloudy this evening, light north to northeasterly breezes.
Low tonight: 7-8

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Skies becoming cloudy this evening, expect light north to northeasterly winds.
Lows tonight: 4-8

Eastern North Island
Thick high cloud about Wairarapa with brisk north to northwest breezes, mainly clear further north with north to northwest winds although some high cloud does gradually increase during the night.
Lows tonight: 6-9

Western North Island
Mostly cloudy skies with northerly breezes. The odd shower for northern Taranaki.
Lows tonight: 8-11

Wellington
Cloudy skies with brisk northerly winds, rising to gale overnight about Cook Strait, chance of a shower at times mainly about the Hutt Valley.
Low tonight: 11-12

Nelson
Mainly cloudy skies with north to northwest winds, chance of a shower overnight.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Marlborough
High cloud with gusty northwesterlies. The odd shower develops about the sounds overnight.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Canterbury
Mainly clear skies with northerly winds. Some high cloud develops towards dawn with winds becoming gusty, more so inland.
Lows tonight: 8-10

West Coast
Rain, heavy at times about South Westland and becoming heavy further north overnight. Brisk north to northwesterly winds.
Lows tonight: 9-10

Coastal Otago
North to northwest winds overnight, areas of cloud with clear spells at times. Cloud thickens towards dawn tomorrow.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Central Otago
Mainly cloudy skies, the odd brief shower possible at times. Rain more likely overnight or towards dawn tomorrow morning. Gusty west to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Southland
Mainly cloudy skies, gusty northwesterly winds and rain developing during the night. Winds change westerly around dawn.
Lows tonight: 7-8
