A west to southwest airflow lies over the country tonight, meanwhile a front moves onto the lower South Island this evening then pushes north overnight bringing cold temperatures.

Northland
Periods of cloud with breezy southwesterlies, easing this evening. The odd shower possible especially in the west.

Auckland

Periods of cloud with west to southwest winds, the odd shower at times.
Tonight’s Low: 11

Bay Of Plenty

Mainly clear skies with west to southwest winds.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8

Waikato & Central North Island

Mainly clear skies with west to southwest winds, some cloud possible
overnight for western parts of these regions.
Tonight’s Lows: 3-7

Eastern North Island

Mainly clear skies with light winds, northwesterlies may freshen about the
Wairarapa overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 4-6

Taranaki

Breezy southwesterlies tend westerly this evening, clear spells.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Western North Island

Mainly clear skies with some cloud developing later this evening, west to
northwest winds.
Tonight’s Low: 6

Wellington

Mainly clear skies with northwesterly winds freshening a little this
evening, some cloud develops overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 7

Nelson

Clear skies with southwesterlies easing this evening, some cloud builds
overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6

Marlborough

Clear skies with light winds, some high cloud possible overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 3-4

Canterbury

Clear skies with light winds, some high cloud later this evening. Overnight
winds change southwest bringing a period of showers. Some brief snow to
600m.
Tonight’s Lows: 4-5

West Coast

Cloudy with occasional showers, westerly winds. Some rain later this
evening / overnight as northwesterlies change southwest.
Tonight’s Lows: 5-6

Coastal Otago

Some high cloud develops this evening, light winds may tend northwest.
Later this evening winds change southwest with a period of showers which clears
overnight. Some snow to 500, possibly 400m for a time before clearing.
Tonight’s Lows: 4-5

Central Otago

Mostly cloudy about the Southern Lakes area with the odd shower possible,
northwesterly winds. Dry further east with clearer skies, mid to late evening
southwesterlies freshen bringing some widespread rain which clears overnight.
Some snow to 600m for a time.
Tonight’s Low: 1

Southland

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower possible then rain this evening as breezy
northwesterlies change southwest. Rain eases back to showers by midnight then
clears overnight. Some snow may lower to 400m for a brief time.
Tonight’s Low: 5
