A cold southwesterly airflow lies over the country overnight with a front moving north over the North Island during this evening.

Auckland & Northland
Periods of cloud with breezy west to southwest winds, a few brief showers move through later this evening or around midnight as winds change brisk southwest.
Tonight’s Lows: 14-16

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island

Periods of cloud with westerly winds, a little brisk at times. A few late showers move through then clearing overnight with a southwest change.
Tonight’s Lows: 9-14

Eastern North Island

Winds change southerly this evening about the Wairarapa bringing showers,
some may be heavy. Clear further north with showers moving through overnight
although showers may only be brief.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Western North Island

Cloudy areas with strong westerly winds, showers moving in. Winds change
southwesterly later this evening. Showers clear around midnight about northern
Taranaki.
Tonight’s Lows: 9-10

Wellington

Winds change strong southerly this evening with rain, potentially heavy
with thunderstorms and hail then clearing overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 11

Nelson

Northerlies change southerly this evening bringing the risk of a shower or
two then clearing. Clear skies overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Marlborough

Clear skies to start, winds change gusty southerly this evening with
showers. Showers more near the coast, a chance some may be heavy with
thunderstorms then clearing around midnight. Clear spells develop
overnight.

Canterbury

Showers ease then clear this evening, clear skies developing overnight with
southwesterlies dying out for a time.
Tonight’s Lows: 4-6

West Coast

Clear skies with south to southwesterly winds easing this evening.
Tonight’s Lows: 6-7

Coastal Otago

Clear spells increasing this evening with southwesterlies easing, light
winds overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 7

Central Otago

Cloud breaking away this evening with southerlies easing overnight.
Temperatures getting fairly cold.
Tonight’s Lows: 1-4

Southland

Any remaining showers clear this evening, a mix of clear spells and some
cloud with southwesterlies tending westerly by midnight.
Tonight’s Low: 7
